Getting enough of your dark green leafy vegetables is one of the cornerstones of good nutrition. Yes , I’m talking about kale, beet greens, chard, collards and spinach, to name just a few. Believe it or not , calorie for calorie, the “dark leafies” are perhaps the most concentrated source of nutrition of any food. Imagine that! These veggies are a rich source of many minerals including iron, calcium, potassium, and magnesium as well as vitamins , including vitamins K, C, E, and many of the B vitamins. Kind of like a multivitamin food group. Dark leafy greens contain a variety of phytonutrients including beta-carotene, lutein , and zeaxanthin, which protect our cells from damage and our eyes from age-related problems, as well as small amounts of Omega-3 fats. Here’s another great bonus about dark leafy greens: they have very little carbohydrate in them, and the carbs that are there are packed in layers of fiber, which make them slow to digest , which is why greens have very little impact on blood glucose. But the star of these nutrients is probably Vitamin K. A cup of most cooked greens provides at least nine times the minimum recommended intake of Vitamin K, and even a couple of cups of dark salad greens usually provide the minimum all on their own. New research has provided evidence that this vitamin may be even more important than we once thought (aka–the current minimum may not be optimal), and many of us don’t get enough of it. And what does Vitamin K do exactly? It regulates blood clotting, helps protect bones from osteoporosis, and may help prevent and possibly even reduce atherosclerosis by reducing calcium in arterial plaques. Vitamin K may also be a key regulator of inflammation , and may help protect us from inflammatory diseases including arthritis and diabetes. Vitamin K is a fat-soluble vitamin, so make sure to put dressing on your salad, or cook your greens with oil to get maximum benefit from this great green vitamin.

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- The Internet is very blue, literally. A recent study of the world's most visited websites has found that they use nearly twice as many shades of blue as shades of yellow and red.

Designer Paul Hebert wanted to see what he could learn from the color palettes of the world's most popular websites. So he scraped the world's top 10 visited websites -- including Google, Facebook and Chinese search giant Baidu -- and recorded all the colors used in the homepages and style sheets.

He found that blue, instead of red, was the most popular color for the world's biggest websites. After gathering a complete list of colors found on all of these webpages, Hebert transformed the data into a series of visuals and posted the details on his personal website.

While Facebook, Google and Baidu use blue dominantly on their pages, Amazon and Yahoo do not show any preference for the color.

Blue is usually seen as a soothing color that brings calm and serenity. Many websites use the color because it is not aggressive and works to keep visitors longer on a website.
While your kids are probably ecstatic about getting out of school for the summer, you might be pulling out your hair trying to figure out what to do with them while you’re at work. Though the summer camps available from nature centers aren’t as long lasting as a private school summer program would be, they are still a great option for you and your kids. Nature Centers often have a rotating variety of summer camps available, including ones that teach kids about survival skills, navigation, and plant and animal life.

The summer camps offered by nature centers will likely be more outdoor-oriented than the private school programs are , but, as mentioned before, they usually don’t last as long. Nature Center camps might last for a week or two, which leaves you responsible for the rest of the time.

CAIRO , July 31 (Xinhua) -- Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) said on Monday that the country's foreign debts have increased by 32.5 percent since July 2016 until March this year.

According to a CBE report, the debt increased by 18.1 billion U.S. dollars during this period, registering 73.9 billion dollars in March 2017.
